ok people this is whats goin on the surgery i was to get changed in mid surgery when the doc realized that my back was more damaged then he thought so insted of a discectomy he had to perform a more evasive surgery which was called a bilaterial disc decompression which resulted in a 4 to 5 inch incision in my lower lumbar region or lower back, the disc was badly damaged and it was deep so deep that some of the nerves were damaged around the area, there was really no way to avoid this due to the severaity of my injury it took 11 staples to close the incision in my back and the surgery lasted 2 or 3 hours, needless to say when i woke up my worst fears came true both of my feet are numb, i have lost feeling the in both them :( the doc said its due to the nerve damage caused by the more evasive procedure and that its a possibility that the feeling may not all return and my feet feel like thay have novicane in them asleep with no prickalies in them. So all i can do now is hope and pray that all feeling does return i guess i have to face the thing i was scaird of the most aint it funny how sometimes you just know whats gonna happen i forseen this in my dreams and i got soo sick when i woke up from surgery and it was happening, i can walk with a cane right now but as time progresses i will keep my fingers crossed and pray alot for a full recovery it will take alot of time so please keep me in your thought and prayers i may not be able to fish but plan on seeing me in the background more than before believe it or not this club and all your encourageing words keep me sane in a time that i could really lose myself in depression

Sorry to hear that Tiny, but you have my thoughts and prayers for a positive and quick recovery. Depression can often be worse than the physical problem, so try and keep your spirits high.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Tony. Hope to see you on your feet and doing the walleye dance this spring.

Sorry to hear the news Tiny. Hope you regain some of that feeling once the swelling from the surgery goes down. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

Tiny, Keep your prayers and chin up. I had a L5-L6 discemtomy last Jan. My surgery went very well. I had spent 23 hours a day on the living room for 29 days before my surgery. My procedure took only 25 minutes and I was sitting up riding back in the car 3 hours later. After surgery, my right leg and foot were also numb but doc said it would take over a year for the nerve to regrow itself due to the severe damage it had underwent from the ruptured disc material. Today, almost one year later, the only tingling I still have is in my outside 2 toes and it keeps getting better.
