Tough Weather = Tough Bite for Second LEWT

The Crown Battery, Sharpnack Chevrolet, Buick and Pontiac Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) held their second event of 2012 on Saturday April 28th at Lakevue Marina. The teams were greated by decent weather but that soon changed.

The team of Dennis Kitchen and Kevin Kirschner lasted the rain, sleet, and snow to win with a weight of 36.40 pounds. Second went to Gary and Nicholas Zart with the weight of 31.82 pounds. Third went to Jason Pelz and Matt Clifton with 28.97 pounds. Rounding out the top Five were: Joe Whitten and Ronnie Rhodes with the weight of 28.13 took fourth and Jeff Lash and Tim Joseph with the weight of 27.35 took the Fifth spot.

Kitchen and Kirschner took the Medina Plating Early Bird award as the top finishing team that signed up to fish all 4 LEWT events during the Early Bird sign up and the Sharpnack Chevrolet- Buick owner’s group contingency award went to Aaron Humbert and Dave Knieriemen. All anglers that have purchased a vehicle from Sharpnack in Willard are eligible for this contingency award at every event the WBSA is holding in 2012.

The top spot in the chase for the big fish money went to Ryan Valentine and Michael Brookina with their 10.43 pound walleye. Jason Pelz and Matt Clifton finished second with their 9.48 pound fish.

The teams brought a total of 135 fish to the scales that averaged 4.91 lbs. Crankbaits seemed to rule again this Tournament and adding snap weights to their lines helped with the surging waves. Don’t rule out harnesses though a few of our top finishers were using them with success.

A special thanks goes out to “Waldo Peppers Bar and Grill”for sponsoring the Lakevue Event. Mike Miller from Waldo Peppers personally brought out food for the anglers during the weigh-in. It seems like everyone liked the food because it didn’t last long.

The remaining 2012 LEWT schedule is:

Sandusky – “Hiway Bait Event”Sandusky City Ramp – June 2nd
Huron – “ Erie outfitters”Huron City Ramp Championship – June 23rd and 24th
