First Time Winners at LEWT Fishhuron.com Event

The Crown Battery, Starcraft Marine Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) held their third tournament of the 2010 season on Saturday June 26th at the Huron state ramp.

At the end of the day the event produced a first time LEWT winner with the team of Randy Cline of Nova and Junior Kitts of Ashland taking the top spot. They brought 32.72 lbs to the weigh in to claim the victory. Finishing second was the team of Jason Kopf of Avon Lake and Ryan Buddie of Lakewood with 31.38 lbs. Third place was a limit of walleye turned in by Aaron Depinet of Tiffin and Kevin Bullock of Celina weighing 31.21 lbs. Rounding out the top 5 were Gary and Nicholas Zart of Brunswick with 30.99 lbs in fourth and Ronnie Rhodes of Lorain and Kevin Kerschner of Vermilion in fifth place with 28.98 lbs. In addition to winning the event Cline and Kitts also won the Medina Plating Early Bird Award by being the top finishing Early Bird team.

The win also put the team of Cline and Kitts in the driver’s seat for the Team of the Year (TOY) race. Kopf and Buddie used their finish to move into a tie with the 2009 defending team of the year Tommy and Tom Sibert for second place in the points. Heading into the Championship at Lorain, the top 10 are separated by just 20 points. The 2 day event promises to be exciting as the teams battle for not only the win but also the coveted TOY title.

It took a 9.89 lb walleye to win the Cranberry Creek Marina big fish competition. Kelly Matthews of Mansfield and Bob Kiamy of Logan brought the winning fish to the scales to capture the top spot. The Zart’s finished second with a 9.45 lb fish that anchored their bag.

The 43 team field brought a total of 185 fish to the scales with an average weight over 4.85 lbs. The sand bar area produced most of the money winning fish. Harnesses behind inline weights were the top producer for the teams.

The remaining 2010 LEWT schedule is as follows:

September 11-12 – 2 Day Championship Lorain - Black River Launch
